Intimacy and Movement Direction
As an Intimacy Director and Coordinator, Safwa is dedicated to fostering an environment of care with ethical practices. By prioritizing actors’ needs and deeply investigating the story, Safwa focuses on creating powerful physical storytelling safely and collaboratively.
She is has trained with Theatrical Intimacy Education (TIE), Intimacy Directors and Coordinators (IDC), studied under Judi Lewis Ockler at NYU, and is currently in training to be a resident Intimacy Director at New York Combat for Stage and Screen.
Safwa has extensive experience and training as a mover and movement director; she trained in various movement methods, including Williamson, Grotowski, Suzuki, and Contact Improvisation. She recently also completed the International Summer School with the UK based physical theater company, Frantic Assembly.
Current:
Intimacy Directing Camping, an Off-Broadway production at HERE Arts Center in collaboration with Colt Couer Theater Company.
Intimacy Directing Let’s Do It, a dance theater production at the IRT Theater.
